5. Cellular Jail
Cellular Jail located in ancient prisons in Port Blair. It is
famously known as ‘Kala Pani’. During colonial rule, the jail was constructed by
the Britishers. They used Cellular Jail to impose freedom fighters into jail as
prisoners. In the 1896 year construction of the jail began and ended in 1906.
Famous freedom fighters were imposed into jail such as Batukeshwar Dutt,
Yogendra Shukla and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Cellular Jail recognise as the
National Memorial monument that held performances of prisoners during the
Colonial period.
